The founders of Cornerstone Foundation (Australia) Inc. are Wayne and Bev Stevens. Wayne is a qualified Technology Studies teacher with 14 years teaching experience, having worked previously in the automotive industry as a fitter and turner/toolmaker and production engineer. Wayne and Bev have fostered a number of disadvantaged children over a 10 year period. They have 2 children of their own and they are also very proud grandparents.
In 1998, Wayne and Bev made the decision to spend 6 months working in a war zone among the ‘Acholi’ people of Kitgum, northern Uganda. During this visit Wayne and Bev saw first-hand the impact of a brutal war and the pain and suffering of children. This experience had a profound and lasting effect upon both of them. They returned to Australia with a clear vision to build ‘Cornerstone Vocational College’ for orphaned and destitute teenagers and provide care, support and accommodation on the Cornerstone property for elderly widows in desperate need.
Since 2000 Wayne and Bev, together with the support of the CFA Management Board and CFA members, have worked hard fundraising and planning the Cornerstone project.
It’s been a long road but for all who have been involved it is exciting to see this special project finally become a reality for the people of northern Uganda.
